COVID-19 Vaccine Has Been Updated for 2026-2027

All COVID-19 vaccines licensed or authorized in the United States (Moderna, Novavax, and Pfizer-BioNTech) have been updated for the 2026-2027 season. Formulations for 2026-2027 will target the XFG subvariant of the JN.1 coronavirus strain. This change was approved by the FDA in August 2026.

The CDC's Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) recommends COVID-19 vaccination for individuals six months and older be a decision made individually with a healthcare provider, emphasizing that the benefits of vaccination are most favorable for those at higher risk for severe disease.

A dose of the 2026-2027 COVID-19 vaccine is recommended for for all adults 65 and older, as well as anyone ages 6 months through 64 who has a condition that raises their risk of severe illness or that want to be protected against the virus. Health conditions that may raise the risk of severe illness include asthma, heart, kidney, liver or lung disease, diabetes, obesity, and pregnancy.

Updated 2026-2027 COVID vaccine is expected to be available at your local Lewis Drug pharmacy mid-September 2026. Some vaccine quantities may be limited, please check vaccine.gov or call your local Lewis Drug pharmacy to determine the availability of vaccine at a Lewis Drug near you.
