Updated 2023-2024 COVID-19 Vaccine

The 2023–2024 formulation for all COVID-19 vaccines licensed or authorized in the United States (Moderna, Novavax, and Pfizer-BioNTech) has been updated to a monovalent vaccine based on the Omicron XBB.1.5 sublineage of SARS-CoV-2. This change occurred mid-September 2023. The Original monovalent and bivalent (Original and Omicron BA.4/BA.5) formulations should no longer be used. Updated 2023-2024 COVID vaccine is currently available at your local Lewis Drug pharmacy. Some vaccine quantities may be limited, please check vaccine.gov to determine the availability of vaccine at a Lewis Drug near you.

What COVID-19 vaccine does Lewis offer?

Updated 2023-2024 COVID-19 vaccines available at Lewis Drug pharmacy locations include: Comirnaty (mRNA Pfizer), Spikevax (mRNA Moderna), Novavax (protein-based) and pediatric Pfizer formulations (limited pharmacy locations). For specific availability, please call your preferred Lewis Drug location, visit the Lewis Drug website (www.lewisdrug.com) to see specific store information or you can visit the vaccines.gov webpage to search for availability at your local Lewis.

Do I need a booster dose?

COVID-19 vaccination is recommended for everyone ages 6 months and older in the United States for the prevention of COVID-19. There is currently no FDA-approved or FDA-authorized COVID-19 vaccine for children younger than age 6 months. CDC recommends that people stay up to date with COVID-19 vaccination.

There is no preferential recommendation for the use of any one COVID-19 vaccine over another when more than one recommended and age-appropriate vaccine is available.

People ages 65 years and older should only receive the recommended number of dose(s) of updated (2023–2024 Formula) mRNA or Novavax vaccine; an additional dose of COVID-19 vaccine is not recommended at this time.

The COVID-19 vaccination schedule for people who are moderately or severely immunocompromised allows for additional doses. Individuals may receive 1 or more additional doses of an updated (2023–2024 Formula) COVID-19 vaccine (i.e., Moderna, Novavax, Pfizer-BioNTech) following the last recommended updated (2023–2024 Formula) COVID-19 vaccine dose.

The CDC reports COVID is a threat to older individuals and those with underlying conditions and has endorsed the Advisory Council on Immunization Practice recommendation that individuals aged 65 and older should receive an additional dose of the current COVID-19 vaccine 4 months after the previous dose.

Is the COVID-19 vaccine free?

COVID-19 vaccine for 2023-2024 is no longer supplied by the US Government. Most, if not all insurance plans will cover the vaccine. Please bring your insurance card to your vaccination. Lewis Drug does participate in the Bridge Access Program, which may help those that are uninsured receive the vaccine at no cost.

Who is eligible for the COVID-19 vaccine?

The FDA and CDC have approved Pediatric COVID-19 vaccines for children 6 months of age or older. Pharmacists at Lewis Drug pharmacy locations are authorized by the PrepAct to administer vaccinations for patients ages 3 years and older. Patients younger than 3 years of age should visit their pediatrician or health care provider to receive the COVID-19 vaccine.

Children under the age of 18 will need parent/guardian authorization and they must be present at the vaccination.

Do I need an appointment?

Most of our locations welcome walk-ins between 10am and 4pm; however scheduling an appointment may be beneficial to decrease your wait time. If you would like to schedule an appointment or confirm specific manufacturer availability at your local Lewis, please call and speak with an associate.
