Five Ways To Clean Garage Floor Stains

Lawn & Garden, Everyday

While spring-cleaning your garage, you might notice a mess of oil, grease and who-knows-what stains on your floor. Get it looking like new again with a few household products:

Concrete Degreaser

After sweeping your garage, mix concrete degreaser with water according to directions. To clean the whole floor, divide it into sections, scrubbing, soaking and rinsing each with a hose or pressure washer. For stains, apply undiluted degreaser directly to spots, then scrub and rinse.

Laundry Detergent

If you don’t have degreaser on hand, a household detergent like Tide will do. Wet the spot, apply the detergent full-strength and scrub with a bristled deck brush. Let it set, then rinse.

Vinegar

For small rust spots, apply white vinegar to the stain and let it soak for at least five minutes. Scrub well with a stiff brush and rinse. Repeat until the stain is gone.

Oven Cleaner

Spray the stain with oven cleaner, let it soak for 5 to 10 minutes and scrub with a deck brush. Rinse with water and repeat as needed.

WD-40

For a nasty oil spot, try spraying it with WD-40 then hosing the spot down.
