Lewis Drug breaks ground for southwest store

Work is about to begin on the sixth full-size Lewis Drug in Sioux Falls.

The 38,000-square-foot store will be built at the southwest corner of 69th Street and Louise Avenue.

It will be the company’s 32nd store in southeast South Dakota, southwest Minnesota and northwest Iowa.

The store is scheduled to open in November. A ceremonial groundbreaking was held May 10.

Jans Corp. is the general contractor. Gary Stanley of RSArchitects is the architect.
The store is expected to employ 20 full-time and 30 part-time workers.

Mark Griffin, CEO and president of Lewis Drug Inc., said the company has been planning to build at the site for several years and that the area has matured into good retail territory.

“It’s a great, growing neighborhood. Great demographics,” Griffin said, referring to the number of young families making their home in the area.
